5 tips on how to prepare yourself for a tarot reading.

You’ve booked your tarot reading. You might be feeling excited, a little nervous, intrigued, or perhaps impatient and worried (especially, if you are at the life crossroads and making some important life decisions).

Tarot readings are divine in nature and can be very intimate as an experience. They can also be very magical. As a tarot reader, I will hold a sacred space and you, as a seeker, will bring your unique energy and a personal story to make the space alive.

The importance of sacred space does not point towards just a peaceful physical space for a tarot reading, but it indicates a combination of physical space (whether in person or online), mental, emotional and spiritual one. As a reader, I will make sure that all this is considered beforehand. As a receiver, you can also do a few things ahead of the session to bring the right energy, mindset, and your best intentions. I do truly believe that my tarot and healing sessions are always co-created by both of us. Your intention is indeed one of the most important elements of a successful tarot session.

Here are five things you can do to get the most out of your tarot session:

1. Centre and ground yourself.

Before the session take a moment to ground yourself. Sitting upright in your chair or on the floor (even better if you have an outdoor space where you can touch the Earth with your feet) and breathing normally, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Ask your body to release any tensions, and fears, and to become fully present. Then, ask your heart and all your senses to open to anything that may be helpful for you to receive. Relax.

If you have a little more time on your hands, prepare yourself something nice and nourishing to drink (a herbal tea or cacao would be amazing). Meditation, a nice walk, even a salt bath is also a lovely way to give your body and soul the right attention before receiving potentially an intense download of new information.

Tarot readings meant to be profound, illuminating, and transformative and it is important that you will be focused and grounded so all the insights are received with clarity and you can get the most guidance from the cards and psychic realisations.

2. Release your control but not your personal power.

The tarot reading is ultimately for you. Open your mind to the messages and insights that will come your way as it may not look like your usual approach or expected information. I always recommend to embrace a sense of enjoyment and exploration. You’re about to set a foot in a world of symbols, hidden knowledge, and magic, after all.

Remember though, you should never give your power away to me or any other tarot reader. After receiving guidance, the ultimate decision and actions are all in your hands. Ultimately, you are your own best advisor. All you will need is to look at your current situation from different angles, receive missing information, consider alternative paths… you should never be told by me, or any of the tarot readers, what to do and how to think. As a reader, I am here to assist you, support you and empower you. Trust yourself. Beyond doubt, I will too believe in you and your final judgement.

Don't forget, the future can always be changed. You’re not trapped by whatever I or anyone else sees in cards. However, your Higher Power and your Spirit Guides, will often use the tarot reader as a channel for the messages that they would like you to consider or be aware of.

3. Formulate the question, and most importantly set the intention. This is the one worth sitting with. Your reading will be influenced by how you formulate your question. It is best to be honest about what you really want to know.

Set the intention of hearing what’s the best for you in this moment and receiving guidance that is for the highest good for you and those around you. For example, is it really about ‘What does my ex think about me and will he ever come back? or could i it be more empowering as ‘How can I create a healthy loving relationship?’.

Depending on the type of the reading you've booked, there might be a consideration for the time you have. Think about the most burning question you currently have or the area of your life that seems to be priority to you. If you've booked a reading such as Happy Birthday, Lunar Guidance, Power Couple, or The Life Path Way, the best is to allow yourself to be guided by cards and messages that get revealed more spontaneously. Interestingly, sometimes these types of readings are the most powerful as they bring up topics and themes we often have a tendency to avoid (often subconsciously).

Journaling at least a few days before the reading may bring a lot of clarity on what you would like to explore. After writing for a bit, you may even find that your question is different than you thought at the start. If you are not big on writing, record your own thoughts, ideas, and questions (especially, after having a dream, meditation, or first thing in the morning).

Once you make your own notes, try to organise your questions from the major one to other issues you’d like to touch on. Be mindful of the time you have for your reading, of course, but two or three should do the trick.

If you are uncertain, confused or simply unsure, reach out! I certainly encourage you to get in touch with me (or another tarot reader you're planning on seeing) if you have any doubts where to focus your reading or whether you've booked the right session.

4. Keep in mind few practicalities:

  • Bring a pen and paper to make notes (or record the reading).

  • Try to get some good rest before the session (you may feel energised and will want to go ahead and manifest something right after it ends).

  • Eat well at least 24h before the reading (avoid too much sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and deep fried food).

  • If you are physically uncomfortable or emotionally unstable, reschedule the reading.

  • For phone readings, it is extremely important you find a quiet space.

  • If you use cleansing tools such as sage, palo santo, flower mist, or crystals - great! Get them working in your space too, it will only help with building up the sacred and magical interaction between you and me, or you and other tarot readers.

5. Enjoy yourself! It’s simple, enjoy and have fun! You will get to experience the wonders of a tarot reading. Relax, open your heart, and see what the cards have in store for you.

If you have your favourite tarot deck or a theme, let me know. I’ve got about 100 decks and a good chance I’ll have what you might already be connected to! :)

Finally, tarot should give you insights not definitive answers. Tarot is about reflection. It’s about seeing yourself or your life from a new perspective, or maybe with clarity you haven’t had for a long time. It’s about recognising your core truths, and realising where you need to grow. Everything is a process, and tarot is a great way for getting the understanding of what needs to be worked through by you, in this lifetime. As a tarot reader, I will be honoured to help you navigate some of the most profound and complex realms and questions and I will do my best to make it pleasant (hopefully, will have some giggles too!).
